I went to a lot of different schools in quite a few cities. But everywhere I went, I found these people. Felt like new city, new school but same people in different faces.
These people were deliverately bullied, for a random reason, most likely some absurd rumour that made people ask each other not to talk to them. For the lack of a better word, they were ‘social pariahs’. We were told that some did not take showers and therefore, stank. Others were annoying, or tried too hard so they became annoying for everyone else also.
But you know what stood out to me? Some of these people were incredibly high-energy and did not care that others did not talk to them as much. Some felt bad and lessened their interactions with others to emerge later and have a glow up. This glow up often came from a transmutation of the pain they had suffered to become better humans or help others. I really admire these people. And I wish I was more brave as a child to befriend the kids that were sidelined for random reasons but my heart still goes out to them.
If you are or know one that had gone through some alienation in middle school, please know that it gets better and you’ll be so much better of a person in the future. Kids are mean but the real world will be kinder, mostly because you’ll be the new world. I hope more people choose kindness and courage. And I hope we teach children acceptance.
But it goes on to prove that some people are undeniable. It is true when they say that sometimes when you have a tough childhood, your adulthood is much easier. This is because it teaches you to be undeniable, to rebuild yourself.
There are plenty stories of denied children becoming undeniable adults and stalwarts in their industries but I think the biggest win would be to gain kindness of the way.
Even if some kids get the perfect upbringing and they go on to become the Bill Gates of the world, the children who were denied become undeniable because they end up being the counsellor that supported or the mother that pushed out of comfort zone to help an introvert child become Bill Gates and I truly believe the kingmaker is more powerful than the King.
